Our weekend started early on Friday morning with coffee followed by a nap. We had planned to be at Panera at 6:00, then to Lowe's to buy ceiling paint, then to be at Whole Foods when they opened at 8:00. Instead, we woke up at 3:30, had coffee and went back to bed. We got to Panera at 8:30, followed by Lowe's and Whole Foods at 10:00 where we spent the most ever on a grocery run. After a quick lunch of leftover pizza, Ornery draped drop cloths all over the kitchen and began painting the ceiling white. That took the rest of the day. Fortunately I had some tuna salad mixed up in the refrigerator, and we ate that with some Nut Thins and Virgil's Root Beer for dinner.
Ten foot ceilings are a lot more work than the typical 8 footers, and even though he was able to stand on the counters for a lot of the work, he was on the ladder a lot (there are can lights and vents that required brush work) and working over his head all day. When he was finished for the night, I cleaned out the garden tub and ran him a bath with some of my new high-dollar bath salts. I also took advantage of a full tub and sat on the back ledge with my feet in the water while he soaked out the soreness from his muscles. Nice stuff, and I suppose worth the money--although I got that item as my free product with sign up as a preferred customer.
Saturday morning I slept in until 7:30. I had my iPod on so didn't hear when Ornery got up, but by the time I opened my eyes, he had already had his coffee and was on the ladder doing some touch up on the ceiling. Since the kitchen was all covered up, we had breakfast at Panera, then went to Academy to buy some bb's for his clock weight. Unfortunately, there is some other problem, and despite more than what should have been enough weight, it still doesn't work. Time for more trial and error?
So, back to the painting he went, and by early afternoon had all the primer on the walls. Lowe's can't tint the primer to the exact color of the paint (although I am not sure why) but when he got the primer on the walls it was the exact color as the paint we plan to put in the main part of the rest of the house, so we got a chance to see what that might look like. Nice. :) I am still a little leery about painting so much green, but as Ornery says, "It's just paint, and if we don't like it we can paint again." I think he is saying that with a tad less gusto after so much of said painting again...
(Here is the work in progress, taken Sunday afternoon at about 3:00. Most of the first coat is on, but still needs to roll the second coat. It's a good thing he is off on Monday, too. I somehow don't think he will be finishing it today!)
By the time we went to bed on Saturday, he had most of the first coat of paint on all the walls (except behind the refrigerator which hadn't even been primed yet). He worked fairly steadily throughout the day, stopping from time to time to talk with me. We actually talked a lot all weekend.
Sunday Ornery slept in, but I was up early! He didn't have all the pampering I had given him the previous night and woke up feeling very sore! It was almost noon before he was ready to start painting again, and while he did that I worked on rearranging the studio to make more work space for Mickie and me.
I turned the table 90 degrees and put the book case beside my chair. The stuff that was on the table is now either at one end or on the little book shelf. It gained us a lot of work space, and I think it will be easier to access all my supplies. I will put the other chair on the door side of the table and we will work opposite each other, which will be much nicer than me squeezed onto one end and her shoved against the window! Change is good...
Ornery is hurriedly working to get part of the kitchen completely finished so I can bake him some cookies. He has certainly earned them! Once we get it all done, I'll do another post and put up some photos. It will probably be tomorrow, though, and even then, I won't have all the decor done up on top of the cabinets. I am thinking about it, but I don't think I have everything I need to make it look like I want it to. No rush--I'm just happy to have it painted something besides that nicotine yellow!
