Color Me--ANYTHING!

It is interesting that in shopping for paint Saturday, I kept migrating to the greens. I mean, absolutely nothing else pleased my eyes! So, Sunday afternoon, Ornery and I wandered through the house with some color swatches and I shared with him the colors I found that I liked and we talked about how to really make Zoe Cottage come to life--and wouldn't you know, he said, "I really liked that green we had in the dining room (at Miller Manor)."

Oh, he is such a man after my heart!

I have been looking at these dull walls and dreaming of ANY color on them except something "neutral." I want the walls to sing and be joyful. I want them to tell a story, and to show there is life in here!  What more natural color than green? The color we have settled on for all the big areas (living, dining, hall, utility, etc.) is a bit more yellow than the sage we used to have, but it seems to fit here better--and it goes really well with the raisin (deep purple) I plan to pair it with in the guest room, and the WOW green I am putting in the kitchen.

I looked at a few books about painting with color, and my eyes kept catching on those green rooms, and thinking how warm and inviting they were. Interestingly enough, one book said, "Green makes a room feel warm and inviting." I suppose if someone didn't like green, they might feel differently, but they can paint their own house!

So, after almost two months of deliberation, we finally have a plan.  When we paint each room, we will take out everything that we don't love and find a new home for it.  The first things to go will be the gold silk drapes in the living and dining rooms, along with the crystal knob-ended curtain rods they are hanging on! We have posters we have hung onto for 20 years--might be time for some new artwork? I am not in a hurry, especially now that I know there is a plan, but I do look forward to Zoe Cottage feeling more like our home.

Jeff said it well when he told me Saturday that he "felt like he was visiting us and our stuff in someone else's house." This place just really needs some color!
