As one of my blogging buddies says, it's hotter than the devil with a fever today, and after a few errands as early as we could get them done, we have stayed inside Zoe Cottage where it is cool. Ornery finished the last cuts on the first clock kit last night, and rather than work out in the hot garage, he set up a table next to the bar in the dining room to do the gluing and finishing. It is a tile floor beneath the table, so easy to clean up if he makes a mess.
While he was working on the clock, I was making cards and wrapping presents for our party tomorrow. I dug out some ancient wrapping paper and rummaged through the boxes of ribbon (my ribbon rack was a moving casualty) to cover up the small gifts I bought. It had been a while since I made any cards, but I managed to put out a couple respectable specimens.
I was just finishing up the last one when Elizabeth called to say they weren't coming today. Her cat has been violently ill for three days and is still not eating. The vet in their little town was closed on Friday for the holiday weekend, as were most of them in the area. She was very worried and didn't want to leave him alone there, and I couldn't blame her. I knew that if they came she would just worry the whole time and not have any fun, so I told her we could plan our weekend fun for a couple of weeks later. She was really disappointed, but agreed it was the best choice.
So we did what anyone would do who had worked like crazy people for weeks on end and had a free afternoon--we went to sleep! :) Mom is still coming for lunch tomorrow, and I bought a puzzle for us to start on while she is here. We'll still grill our hobo dinners and celebrate her birthday (June 10th--not quite a month late!) and enjoy our first official company since we moved. It certainly looks different now than it did when she helped us move in!
If the last few nights are any indication, our neighbors will be putting on a fireworks show and we won't even have to go anywhere to enjoy it! For our patriotic show, we set out three little flags in the front flower bed and if we get around to it, Ornery will hang the flag pole bracket so we can put up the banner flag as well. If not, we did just move in!
