I ended up rescheduling the brunch I had planned for the morning since I didn't know how long it would be until it was cool in here again. The air conditioning technician arrived at about 10:00, and within 10 minutes he had the problem fixed. Of course it took the rest of the day to cool the place back down, but at least we didn't have to go through the weekend in the heat. It was a capacitor and a switch (I think he said) that had gone bad, and he switched them out in no time.
