Ornery's New Shop

It took us almost exactly one week--we finished at noon today--to put the garage together. Here are some pictures of the finished product!

 This was where we started last weekend, with the tool bars. You can just see the end of the shelf that runs along the wall further down where we have all our Christmas stuff stored. (and ice chests)  Below that, we have the jack, ladders and other small things, and at the far end are the folding tables.

 This was actually the last thing we did. The picket fence shelf is the one Ornery made last fall to hold my Miller Manor Designs creations at the craft show.  We had it in my booth at the antique mall, but we went today and brought it home, along with a few other things. This little area has the mower, trimmer, bicycle, lawn funnel, wheel barrow, fertilizer spreader and two bags of various garden additives--and the trash cans!

There is no outside door (other than the overheads) in this garage, so we either have to store them in the garage, or go around through the gate to use them.  The city requires all trash to be bagged, so hardly anyone uses trash cans. We may opt for the same idea--except I am not too keen on bags of garbage laying around on the garage floor.

 This shows the storage area (and Ornery's miter saw...) which consists of two large green totes full of camping/backpacking supplies, the Gladiator cabinet which has hand held power tools like the drill, circular saw, jigsaw, chain saw, hedge trimmers, etc., AND plumbing, electrical and automotive stuff.  It is pretty full! To the right of the gladiator is the formerly purple shelf unit that I painted red.  It is full of painting and drywall tools and materials. On the far right edge of the photo is my new vacuum cleaner! Woot!

This shows the work bench--painstakingly painted to match the rest of the room, and the two full sheets of framed pegboard.  The boxes on the workbench contain the clock kit that Ornery started working on in January and put away in February.  He had a big grin on his face as he carried it through the kitchen to the garage.

I didn't photograph the other workbench, which used to be a garden cart.  I spent a long time organizing it, and it stores all the screws, nuts, bolts, and misc. little parts like that, as well as the Dutch oven cooking paraphernalia. It backs up to the "shed" area, and the picket fence shelf covers the end of it perfectly.

One thing we didn't want to store in the garage was all the gas cans for the lawn equipment, and when we were at Lowe's this morning, they had some outdoor plastic storage units on sale so we bought one and will put it in the back yard along the north side of the house (where nothing grows anyway) and fill it full of noxious fumes. :)  It is big enough to hold the gas cans and an extra propane tank for the grill.

We still have just a little bit of clean up to do out there before we can park inside again, but hopefully by tonight we will be able to do so.  We are very pleased with the finished project, and I know Ornery will love working out there in his spiffy new Man Cave.
