The Kitchen Is Green

In one weekend, this room has taken on a lot of personality from the boring spot it was when we moved in. As soon as the drop cloths were down, I started making Ornery some much deserved cookies.  It was the first batch at Zoe Cottage, and actually my first cookie baking in a number of months.  I think the only baking I have done here has been banana bread, and it was nice to know I hadn't lost my touch--although these weren't the best cookies I have ever made...

Ornery thought the ME print might fade under the light above the pantry door, so I will need to find something else to hang there.  Meanwhile, the grumpy girl hangs above the cabinets in good company with the orange and yellow vases I had in my craft room for several years. I can totally imagine what a delightful contrast painting the cabinetry white would be, (see how cool the pantry door looks?) and he is considering it. LOTS of work, but likely very worth it. We would paint the insides of the shelves above the stove and in the book case with a persimmon color--sort of a cross between red and orange--which would be one more quirky decorator move to make the place even more "ours."

This is the beginning of a top treatment. The basket used to have a mammoth dried and silk flower arrangement in it and was on top of the entertainment center in the living room.  I am going to have to think some more about what else to put there, but it is a start, and better than having nothing at all up there.  I am thinking I need some sort of table linens draping out of the mouth of the basket, but that is as far as I have gotten.  Any suggestions?

The market poster looks just as wonderful against the green as I had envisioned. I love it when things turn out like you plan!  Ornery still needs to move the refrigerator out and paint behind it today, but otherwise, he is done with this room -- unless he agrees to paint the cabinets, but that won't be for quite a while since we have the whole rest of the house left to paint except the library and our room!

The next painting project is the very dark and depressing little alcove outside our bedroom. It will be the same sage-y green as we put on the bedroom walls.  It will be a quick project, and then we'll put a new green (called olive marinade) and deep purple (called raisin) in the guest room.  Once we get that painted, we will decide which of the greens (our room or the guest room) we like the best to put in the rest of the house. Right now, I am leaning toward the olive marinade, but honestly there is very little difference between the two colors.
