Sleeping not much of a possibility in the heat, I got up around 12:15 and filed a claim online with the home owner warranty service. Hopefully we get a call from the service provider bright and early, but even if we do, I doubt the house will be comfortable enough for brunch with the girls. I didn't get the cooking done yesterday, thinking I would have time in the cool of the morning before they arrived to make the quiche, but alas, it appears we will have banana bread from the freezer and fruit salad here, then maybe something out if they have time to linger.
Fortunately there are ceiling fans in a few of the rooms to make it somewhat tolerable, but at 12:45 AM it is still 93 degrees outside, so even that isn't going to offer much comfort for long once the sun comes up.
I finished the cards and wrapping last night.
The cards are not in envelopes--I decided to use them as package decorations--and they are clipped onto the ribbons with glittered clothespins I made several months ago and have been waiting for an opportunity to use. The gifts inside are mostly the same items, just different styles. The cards will probably be the most cherished part of the gift, if I know my friends. I wrote sappy sentiments inside, and while they are all modest and would never admit aloud to owning the character virtues they all strive to attain, they will be inwardly happy to know another person noted them. :)
In other news, I got 2 inches cut off my hair yesterday afternoon, but since the cuts were in layers, the actual length is still almost the same. It certainly perked things up! The appointment was at 1:00, and I arrived just on time after leaving 25 minutes prior. There are 26 traffic lights and one active train track between Zoe Cottage and the salon--I counted on the way home! It is only about 8 miles...I asked if he thought they might be opening up a second salon in Broken Arrow, he said he'd like to. Me, too!
In my various outings yesterday, I saw more camouflage cargo shorts (on unlikely subjects!) than you could imagine. One rather short, older (than me) woman was wearing them long and baggy with a wrinkled, red gingham, sleeveless, button-down shirt, and wild printed fabric Converse tennis shoes with rhinestones all over the toes--no socks. None of the pieces, including her over-sized, printed vinyl handbag, matched any other part of the ensemble. It was quite a bizarre outfit, but after I saw her I noted several others with similar fashion (?) sense.
And gobs of boys (and even a few men) with Mohawk haircuts. One guy we saw walking outside last night must have just left the salon because his head was still very white where it had been shaved. :) We decided there must be some famous person sporting the hairstyle, because it cannot be very comfortable to wear, especially as long as they are wearing the tops. I don't think the style is allowed in school, so the kids must have saved up all their hair growth for the summer break in order to have the length they do--some as long as 3 inches. I wonder what they will do once school starts--shave it all off, I suppose.
In case you were wondering, Ornery is not sporting a Mohawk. It might be interesting to see, though, especially with all the interesting cowlicks he has! :)
