Friday afternoon Ornery called to let me know they had moved the close date up to Wednesday, so things are clipping right along! I called most of the utilities to get things transferred on the right day, and the bank to find out the timing for the money wire for our funds at closing. Ornery's dream of being a landlord is actually starting to come true!
Saturday I think we hit the floor talking, and didn't really stop until quite late in the day. Other than running to Lowe's and doing a few auto related chores (car wash, fill up, oil change) we spent the first half of the day with our noses in journals and lists, and talking. We discussed the repairs to the new rental and options for getting more capital for the next one.
One option we discussed at length was renting out the two spare bedrooms in our home. We live just a couple of miles from a non-residence Bible School, and the students have to find housing on their own. We thought it might be a good way to bring in some income, and once we are done fixing up the new house, we will revisit the idea more seriously. Meanwhile, I will work to that end by gradually going through and weeding things out in preparation for our neighborhood garage sale, May 18th.
Ornery went in to work for three hours after lunch, and I worked on laundry and the kitchen. There was more thinking about how to make it work to have others live with us, and despite there only being two of us here, we have filled up most of the nooks and crannies in Zoe Cottage with all manner of flotsam and jetsam which would need to be condensed or eliminated. I don't mind simplifying, but Ornery is a bit of a pack rat...
Sunday
I worked a jigsaw puzzle while Ornery went back in to work for another three hours. My back, hip and leg were giving me fits all day, and by the end of it I just wanted to go to bed and sleep it off with hopes it would be better in the morning. We talked, read and watched a movie, but otherwise it was a pretty quiet day.
Flotsam and Jetsom! I love it! I recently realized that I was not the only packet living here,a s I went to clear out some stuff and noticed it didn't all belong to me!
ReplyDeleteWe are a family of pack-rats and are working diligently to change habits. It's HARD.
