Cement dust

CW woke up really early this morning and reported that he was just laying there counting tiles, so he figured he would rather be putting them up and left for 507 before I was even up.  Ornery made a Lowe's run, then swung back by here to pick me up for the day.  By the time we got there, CW had almost finished the second row of accent tiles in both bathrooms!  Isn't it gorgeous??

We were expecting a tree service to arrive around 10:00, but they didn't show until later, but they did get the tree in the front yard taken down.  In fact, we were gone running yet another trip to Lowe's and a tile store when they arrived, and by the time we got back, this was all that was left of the tree.

 They were efficient, I gotta say that for them!  In less than two hours they had that bad boy down to a stump and all the debris except for a small pile of brush loaded on their trailer.

We were really surprised at how neatly they took it down, not hitting a single thing they weren't supposed to, and even landing that big tall trunk on the top of their brush pile so it was raised up off the ground enough to cut up without hitting the saw on the driveway.

While they were working on that, CW filled the hole on the driveway that Michael and Jeff broke out on Saturday, and then built a little form to make the threshold for the back door a little bigger. CW announced that at 4:30 he would be laying the last of the tile, but I think he sort of jinxed himself by putting a time on it because he never did make it back to the tile today.

Instead, he and Ornery wrestled with the door from the kitchen to the garage.  The old door didn't latch at all, and the threshold was all wonky so they ended up (after several hours of in and out, shimming, removing shims, etc.) grinding down the old cement threshold and making it more level.  Unfortunately, that left an enormous mess with cement dust all over EVERYTHING in the house.

There were other little tasks accomplished while Ornery and I were running errands, like a corner in the living room that was all messed up was cleared out and properly repaired with mud and tape, and the shower opening above the hall bathroom was re-opened (after Ornery accidentally put sheet rock over it and forgot to cut the hole).

The guys are blowing through the list of things that needed repairing, and actually fixing them right. By the time the house is ready to rent it ought to be in pretty good shape!
