Indecisiveness Costs Us a Day

Well.  Where do I start?  Today was the first chance CW had to see 507. Within an hour he had already done some demolition.  The master bathroom was first.  The medicine cabinet, the tub surround and the sink and vanity have left the building.

 Next he removed the tub surround in the hall bathroom as it was not installed properly nor did it fit the area right.  The photo is blurry because the guy NEVER stops moving!!

What followed was a grueling and expensive day at Lowe's, the plumbing supply store, and another long visit to Lowe's, during which we returned 1/2 of the stuff we bought at the first visit and spent a good deal more.

Here is the problem:  The hall bathroom has a new tub in it, but there was really no way to rectify the mistakes made when they applied the surround so we set out to look for other options.  First we purchased an adjustable size, easy-to-cut surround.  It was just too cheap looking.  We decided to tile it instead.

In the Master Bathroom, the tub is only 23" wide--much narrower than the 29" which is the standard size we found today.  The first option we explored was a corner shower, but the room was too small.  Then we figured we would just get another surround like we got for the hall bathroom, but once we decided to tile one bathroom, we decided to tile them both.

This necessitated a trip to Bixby (about 30 miles round trip) to pick up a borrowed tile saw. While in that town we shopped at the Lowe's there and found some nice tile, plus all the accouterments to apply it.

The bathrooms were not the only objects of our attention today.  I had an estimate done on some tree work--we will be buying a chain saw, thankyouverymuch!  The maple tree in the front yard is doomed and likely to crash into our neighbor's house when it goes--which could be any time after a good hard rain with some heavy winds.  I don't really know how it is still standing to be honest.

Then we looked at the side door in the garage.  Nothing is made the same today as it was 50 years ago, and that certainly holds true for doors, trim, cabinets, plumbing, electrical, and the list goes on ad infinitum!  It would be too simple to purchase a pre-hung door and expect it to fit right in... $100.00 of trim later hopefully we will be able to make it work.

So, at the end of the day, all I can say is we have a plan and have already made two of the requisite three trips per project to Lowe's. Nice to have that out of the way right off the bat but hopefully we will see some concrete progress toward the end goal tomorrow.
