Slingin' Paint!

We started out the morning with a list making session followed by a Lowe's run.  There were not too many things we needed, but we figured we would get it out of the way early in the day.  Of course by the end of it, we had added more things to the list, including a few more gallons of trim paint!

Other than the front door which I painted a couple of weeks ago, we have not applied any paint to 507 until today.  Ornery helped me get all the stuff out of the master bedroom closets, then I pulled nails and patched the holes (many holes!) and started painting the formerly pink and cream colored walls and ceilings bright white!  I got the second coat on one closet and the first on the other and painted the window frames and sills. I am using glossy paint on the closets, cupboards and trim because it is so much more durable than other finishes.  With the doors still off the closets practically light up the room!

Elizabeth came over at about 9:30 and helped us for a few hours.  She removed all the excess slats from all the mini-blinds throughout the house, making them not only look nicer but work better as well.  She also did a little brush work in the first closet.

Michael came after lunch and took down all the doors in the house, labeled where they went, and then took down all the cabinet doors in the kitchen and removed the hardware. I certainly have my job cut out for me with all those to paint!

Besides help me with the closets (and search for his gloves, tools, parts, etc.) Ornery worked on the master bathroom.  He caulked both ends of the tub after carefully cleaning and taping it off, and finished installing the plunger on the sink.

The tree guy never came back (not really surprising given his track record).  He left some of his stuff at the house, so I figure it is just a matter of time. I just wish he would finish the job already!

We worked until about six, but the hours were very productive and we were both very tired by the end of the day.

Master bathroom

• dry towel the tiles to get the grout haze off.  
• super clean the edge of the tub beneath the tiles
• caulk around tub with sanded caulk (2/3 of the way there!)
• finish installing the sink, including caulk/silicone sealer
• replace tub spout (pipe is too long)
• finish installing the exhaust fan/light
• patch cracks in ceiling and above window
• float all drywall work and prime
• repair door to cabinet above toilet 
• install new baseboards
• put up hooks behind the door for towels
• install curved shower curtain rod
• install new light above sink
• paint trim, door and cabinet
• replace handle on cabinet door
• paint walls and ceiling
• seal grout (after April 6th)
• clean everything thoroughly

Master bedroom

• remove closet doors and paint both sides
• remove closet "inserts" (shoe shelf and very crooked little clothes bars)
• move top shelf down
• paint inside closets (there are two)
• put new clothes bar in one closet
• repair and paint passage door
• fix strike plate on door frame
• replace broken mini-blind
• fill cracks in walls and ceiling, and sand
• paint walls, trim and ceiling
• vacuum carpet
• clean windows and ceiling fan
