Welcome to the bee-hive! We have been busy, busy, busy today! Ornery and I got up early, around 5:00 and enjoyed our coffee before emptying out our closet. Some of the contents ended up on the Ceragem bed, others in the guest room closet,
and a lot of stuff was piled in the bathtub outside the closet door.
After breakfast, we all (including the dog) piled into the car and truck and headed to Lowe's for our first project run. Once we were done shopping there, Mimi and I went to Hobby Lobby and the guys and dog came home to start on the closet. They tore out all the shelves in the section that would be opened up, then cut the hole, built the frame and hung the door. The last thing they did was put up the sheet rock and mud and tape. That was an amazing first day. Here are some pictures of the end of the day.
This is looking from our bathroom through the closet into the laundry room! SO exciting! We were originally planning to put the same type of doors that were in the other part of the closet but they were a special order item, and the earliest we could get them was next Wednesday. We opted instead for a bi-fold door.
This is looking from one end of the closet. I know it doesn't look like much, but I am thrilled with their progress so far!
While they were working on that, Mimi and I were gainfully employed. First we hung pictures in the living room. We moved the poppy from behind the recliners to above the mantle, which is where I had wanted to put it, but thought it was too large to fit.
Then we hung the three Beaubien watercolors I got in Manitou Springs, CO a few years ago above the bank of windows, removing them from the corner where they were mostly hidden. We hung a marker drawing Elizabeth did in high school of some iris, but shortly after we hung it, the hanger fell off and the picture fell to the floor. It is awaiting a new hanger, then it will go in the same place we took the three watercolors from. Since it is larger, it won't be lost in the corner like the three little guys were.
They were not easy to hang, but a few extra holes are no big deal to me!
The large pansy print was in a cheap plastic frame, so I bought a new wood and glass poster frame at Hobby Lobby this morning and we used that as the focal point on the wall behind the couch. The little shelves on the top of the couch will go two inches below the pictures when we can get a guy with a drill available. I also re-stuffed and sewed closed the little denim quilted pillow Mimi made for me when I was in high school.
Next, we hung the words on the wall for Mimi to trace and begin painting. This is the progress at the end of day one.
We are all pretty tired tonight. I think we put in a good day's work!
