Today I spent all morning in the kitchen, where I made pumpkin cornbread, hobo dinners, roasted chicken with peppers and onions, and tacos, started two quarts of vanilla, and put some beans on to soak for tomorrow. The list of things I wanted to make was much longer, but that was all I got done.
Such a lovely kitchen to work in. :)
After lunch, I took a nice little nap, then puttered around outside, sweeping the porches and watering my hydrangea. I also brought the asparagus fern in for the winter--hopefully I can keep it alive.
After dinner, Ornery and I sat outside on the front porch and gave out candy to what seemed like hundreds of kids from our neighborhood. We ran out of candy just after 8:00 PM. We will know for next year to buy more and plan on staying out later.
Our neighbor goes all out for all the holidays. He had a smoke/bubble machine that filled the bubbles with smoke so when they landed and popped, a little poof of smoke came out. Ornery was all kinds of impressed. We have been watching Frankenstein and the pumpkin totem pole for several weeks now. Can't wait to see what he does for Christmas!
There were some really cute costumes, and we enjoyed sitting out and watching all the parents walk around with their kids. Most of the kids seemed really nice, and very well behaved. Without fail, if the kids didn't say thank you, the parents reminded them, and often thanked us as well. We are liking this neighborhood quite well. :)
