The master bathroom project continues... Friday evening Ornery taped off more of the trim, Saturday I did the roller work on the walls and ceiling in the main part of the room while he and Elizabeth were at the airport working on an airplane. The color is called Homestead Resort Tearoom Yellow by Valspar. (I am wondering where this Homestead Resort is because I actually have liked several of the colors they have used in it, and in fact used the Homestead Resort Parlor Sage for the master bedroom!) (edited to add: here is a link to a post with the actual wall color)
The color is exactly the same as the one that was already on the walls when the paint is wet, but it makes the old color look tired and faded once it dries. As I have been painting I noticed how beat up and tired looking the woodwork on the cabinets is. I don't know whether Ornery would be up for painting them to match the trim or not, but it seems like it could only improve their appearance.
Friday during the day I began an art journal. I am not sure why I have never tried it before, but those Twinkling H20 paints have me wanting to paint, paint, paint! So, Friday I did two pages, mostly with the paints. Saturday's entry was about a stained glass panel I saw on etsy that I am going to use as inspiration for a colored glass piece I will make for my studio window. I used the paints to fill in the colors on the drawing I did in the journal and scribbled my thoughts about the piece.
I will use alcohol inks on the glass but after a trial run with some of the twinks on a domino (which would offer basically the same surface as the glass), I may be able to use them to add some additional shimmer once the ink is dry and sealed. Hanging in front of that southern exposure window, it should add some wonderful color to the room!
Saturday afternoon, Ornery and I worked more on the bathroom and Elizabeth went out shopping.
Sunday morning we had breakfast at Panera (their new Mediterranean Egg White Sandwich is really good!) then went to Lowe's to buy new light fixtures for our bathroom. The old Hollywood dressing room light bars were uninspiring. We bought this one for above my sink, and the three light model for above Ornery's sink.
When the light bar was removed from above my sink, we discovered that the box was not centered above the sink, nor really even on the wall, but sort of between the vanity area and the sink itself. I am not terribly excited about the placement, but I am just happy to have something more modern. It generates plenty of light even without the max 100 watt bulbs in it. :) In fact, the four bulbs from this one give more light than the 8 in the other fixture!
Ornery changed out the lights and put up all the fixtures in the room including a new towel bar next to his sink that will accommodate both a wash cloth and a hand towel, which the single ring would not do. We did not get the last bit of painting done, which I am guessing will happen sometime this week.
After the Lowe's run, we all gathered in the living room for the sermon. I took notes for discussing afterwards and Elizabeth worked on the shawl she began last weekend. Throughout the course of the day we both worked on that to finish it and get it up on her shop.
I even took the photos of it! I helped her clean out her desk drawers and get rid of some old papers while Ornery put up the lights and worked in the bathroom. She still had all the letters she got while she was in basic training, and I spent a little time reading what I had written about to her back then. It seems like an eternity ago, and I know she would as soon forget all about it. She also got rid of some stuff that I latched onto for some future art projects--some metal charms, old resin pens that look like girls, CD's and other misc stuff. I don't mind scavenging a bit!
The weather is springlike and I am going to move some plants outside to enjoy the sun and put more dirt in the garden containers so I can plant a few things this week. I know there is a chance of a late freeze--in fact I will be surprised if there is not one-- but with containers it is easy to protect them by throwing over a cover, and it will be nice to get things going.
I hope to get the main part of the bathroom finished by the end of next weekend, and the small toilet area done the following weekend. We will take a break from inside house projects for a few weeks and focus outside getting the vegetable and herb garden planted and reworking some of the landscape. When it gets too hot outside to work, we still have the other bathroom to paint and fix up, but we finally decided on a color scheme and a plan for that room.

Your bathroom sounds like it will be lovely with that yellow paint and new lights and fixtures. Dennis recently gave both of our bathrooms' cupboards a light sanding and a new coat of stain plus varathane since 17 years of water and wear had left them dull and pale.
