The neighbors had quite a bang-up time last night in celebration of our country's independence. Pops, bangs, whistles and cracks could be heard from 8:00 until after midnight. The lights flashed in our windows and we were actually able to watch a rather impressive display from inside the library. I couldn't sleep through the whole affair, but I managed to snooze quite a bit with the aid of my iPod and ear plugs. It was pretty disconcerting to have so many fire-inducing products flying over our house and yard, but apparently there were no fires in our neighborhood, for surely I would not have slept through sirens!
Ornery took care of a few things around the yard in the morning, including moving the garden to a spot away from the brick wall of the house. I hadn't realized how much extra heat that wall generated, but he assures me it is excessive, and partially responsible for the early demise of my tomato crop. We grilled some steaks and had them with baked potatoes and mixed vegetables for lunch then watched a movie. In all, it was a pretty nice day.
Today I took my little garage sale table out to the Man Cave to sand and paint it. I plan to put maps on most of the flat surfaces, but I don't know for sure whether I can make the paint fully cover the stain that was on the wood. I should have primed it, but I didn't, so there are several places where the red stain shows through, despite the piece wearing two full coats or more of white paint. I am a little discouraged right now, but I am sure I will figure something out to make it work.
